WELCOME TO MARHABA SPACE!

Marhaba Space will be an open access space for young people aged 13-25 living in Lambeth run out of our Vining Street Hub every Thursday! It will be a brilliant space which upholds all of our values and ideals - and one that is open consistently and free to use for all young people, no questions asked

MARHABA SPACE

04

WHY DOES MARHABA SPACE EXIST?

Spaces where young people meet, learn, grow, organise, agitate, and dream together are being pushed out of existence, and while we are doing our best to fight that on a structural level as an organisation, the pressing needs with this cost of living crisis have made it clear we need and should do more.

WHO CAN COME?

All young people aged 13-25 and who live in Lambeth are welcome to drop by

between 12 PM - 6PM!

WHAT WILL BE AVAILABLE THERE?

We will keep the space free for the young people to shape as they see fit - through conversations with us and with each other. The young people who join us will be able to do their homework, hang out with friends or get to know people, access our social justice library, listen to music, do art, learn more about organising from us, or simply just exist in a space that is warm, cosy, welcoming, and sees them for the brilliant people they are.

We will make sure there is food at every session - sandwiches the young people can make for themselves, fruit, and hot drinks to have.

An increasing number of decisions at The Advocacy Academy are taken by our Advocate Members as part of a

“cyclical leadership model”.

After the Fellowship and Spark programmes our young people continue to organise and grow with us, leading our programmes, working with our partner organisations and launching campaigns as members of the Movement. But there are even more ways to get involved with us!

We deliver programmes that bring together young people and local civic leaders in the heart of Brixton,

continuously rooting our work in community and solidarity.

01

Fellowship

Our flagship programme, the Social Justice Leadership Fellowship, is an immersive six-month crash-course in social justice.

Our flagship programme, the Social Justice Leadership Fellowship, is an immersive six-month course in social justice. Made up of three residential retreats and weekly evening gatherings, the Fellowship is delivered by an outstanding faculty of 250 expert change-makers from more than 50 partners - ranging from Sisters Uncut and the Black Cultural Archives to The New York Times. Through 400 hours of experiential education and collective action our advocates learn to analyse the socio-political conditions in their communities, identify innovative solutions to the injustices they have experienced and build their power to bring about this change.

SPARK

02

As we know not all young people either need or are ready to engage with the six months intensive deep dive provided by the Fellowship. Spark consists of a 5-day introduction to the basics of social justice theory, every day activism and organising for change.

03

CMDP

The Changemaker Development Programme (CMDP) is a training which supports our Members to develop youth work and facilitation skills. The CMDP training combines theory and practice, to support our Member community to develop their leadership practice and social justice education methods and become Changemakers who lead our Spark and Fellowship programmes. Changemakers are central to our movement. The programme runs every year. Kicking off with a week-long leadership intensive in June, here we draw on the traditions of radical youth work, non-formal and social justice education, with a TAA twist.

We journey through a wide range of topics, from Youth Work 101 to pedagogy and so much more, giving them access to a huge volume of knowledge, resources and skills. This training is relevant not only at TAA, but in youth work, campaign work, organising, and every aspect of their lives! The learning doesn’t stop here. Afterwards, they are invited to top-up training, 1-2-1 sessions/mentoring and developmental reflective spaces
